Put away the rocking chairs and bring out the dance floor! Seniors are no longer living to the “standards”of being a senior citizen and living their “Golden years” to the fullest, maintaining active senior living that includes working jobs well past the age of retirement, and, after retirement, finding activities and hobbies that interest them to fill their time.
Volunteering is something many seniors look forward to doing as well. Volunteer work can be rewarding and fullfilling, offering not only the chance to make a difference in someone’s life, but the chance for many perks for the gift of your time, including travel benefits. Many volunteer positions can take you to countries around the globe, conducting a variety of job services. Other volunteer positions are available at places such as local schools, churches, and libraries.
Community centers as well as senior citizen centers often offer daily or weekly actvities for seniors to participate in as a group or individually. Actvities include quilting, arts, crafts, cooking, and more. There are always new and exciting activities going on to suit everyone’s interests, all with others in the same age group. These events and classes are usually free, but may require advance sign up.
Senior Book Clubs are also becoming popular. These groups can consist of several people in the same age group, meeting on a weekly basis to discuss a book they have read. Book clubs are great to host and attend. If reading isn’t a favorite activity, any type of “club” would work just fine. Choose something that interests you, and have fun!
Community events around town often feature seniors events as well. Activities may include concerts, pottery lessons, computer workshops, and other fun events for active senior living. Participating in these types of activities can keep seniors healthy and happy.
Senior citizens can participate in any activity they choose to participate in. Who can forget the dare-devil seniors who bungeee jump from atop a moutain or skydive through the air? If you feel good enough to do it, nothing can stop you.As long as a good time is being had, nothing else matters.
