Senior Nursing Homes Provide Quality Care for your Loved One

Senior nursing homes are the number one choice people to choose to care for their elderly loved ones when they are no longer able to do so themselves, or when the burden of caring for them becomes more than you can do alone.

Nursing homes for seniors provide room and board for the patient, along with round the clock medical care. A nursing home can provide occupational rehabilitation, physical therapy, social work, and many other needs of the patient. These nursing home facilities provide long-term care for seniors.

Nurses are a part of seniors care at nursing homes, however, the majority of the care is provided by Certified Nursing Assistants. CNA’s can assist patients with daily living activities that the patient can not complete on their own such as medications, bathing, dressing, and meals. CNA’s can also provide the patient with companionship to make a person’s life a little bit better.

Recreational activities are also provided for the senior living home for the enjoyment of the residents. Activities vary from nursing home to nursing home but can include such activities as art, painting, cards, movies, walks, picnics, and computer classes.

A senior nursing home also varies on the level of care that they can provide. Some provide only the basic medical services, while others, most known as Skilled Nursing Facilities, can provide hospital-like care and services. Additionally, other senior care homes have special care units such as for seniors with Alzheimer and chronic illnesses.

Care for your loved one in a nursing home facility can cost thousands of dollars per month, depending on the level of care needed by the patient. Most insurances, primarily Medicaid and Medicare, cover the majority of the cost of a nursing home. Senior homes that are Medicare or Medicaid certified must meet strict requirements and regulations in order to operate. As an alternative to a nursing home, you can get senior care providers that will come to your home and provide assistance, be it full time care, part time care, or even to perform specific tasks once in a while.

Each nursing home is given a star rating of 1 to 5, 5 being the highest rated nursing home providing the best of care. At Medicare a list of all certified nursing homes is available, with their star level and a full report of the nursing home that includes health inspection results, staff data, quality measures, and fire safety reports This is very helpful in choosing the care facility that most meets your needs and standards.

Choosing a nursing home for senior care is an option you will feel good about making. Care is provided while still allowing the patient as much independence as possible. You can always rest easy knowing your loved one is always in good care.
